Is the Mayan calendar affecting today’s politics? - The Xtra News

Supposedly the world is supposed to end, as we know it, on December 21, 2012. Is this a subconscious reason why the world is so nuts these days, especially when it comes to politics? Is this why all the weirdoes are coming out of the woodwork? Is this why we can count the right wing religious fanatics among the weirdoes?
Follow my logic here, if you will. Salvation is supposed to be like sobriety is to AA. It is supposed to be very selfish. You are supposed to stay selfish for your own well being, and any new friends you make or opportunities you are blessed with is just icing on the cake. Religion likes to point out Bible passages about places like Sodom and Gomorrah where whole cities were doomed because of rampant sin. They feel that if our country goes to hell in a hand basket that we ALL will go to hell. What they forget though is the selfish part of salvation. There are plenty of passages in the Bible that state outright or indicate that once an individual is saved, it doesn’t matter what is going on around you, so long as you’re not participating in it, you’re not going to hell even if the rest of your country is. You can be the one saint in the midst of total chaos and the chaotic people will go to hell but you will still be saved.
The Bible also states that no one on earth knows the day or time that the final trumpets will blow, signaling the second coming of Jesus. In my humble Christian opinion, this means that even if there is a totally devastating nuclear war, and the only life left is people who survived in underground bunkers and the cockroaches, the trumpets still may not even sound at that time. By the same token, if the world ends as we know it on 12-21, by (the theory is) the gravitational pull of the earth reversing and everyone who isn’t tethered to the earth floats off into space, this still may not trigger the second coming.
So what if all the fanatical are coming out of the woodwork this particular political season because they want to set the world straight and get everyone on a Godlier course?
What if, in the back of their minds, they’re thinking they only have till 12-21-12 to accomplish this daunting task?
What if people are just being hateful and acting out on their bigotry and racism because they feel that after 12-21 it isn’t going to make any difference anyway?
What if people are robbing, raping and murdering others because they believe that if they’re caught, they’re only going to have to be incarcerated till late December?
What if…….the disaster of 12-21-12 is already in progress? They say all the screwballs come out of the woodwork on the nights of a full moon. What if some kind of gravitational influence is already affecting people? What if all the solar flares of late are sending radiation we don’t know about and it is affecting our minds, causing us to act crazy?
What if the Mayans just ran out of room on that rock they carved and no one started on rock part II. Won’t that make some people feel pretty silly on 12-22-12?
If we DO survive and live beyond the end of the Mayan calendar, we need to step it up on educating people. The downfall of our society has been the downplaying of the importance of education and all the funding cuts for elementary and secondary education. That will put the Redumblicans in their place, because they readily admit that the smarter people are, the more likely they will vote Democrat. They (the Redumblicans) use things like less education and voter suppression to win elections. If we smarten up our youth, we’ll have true Redumblican suppression, and maybe they’ll learn that we live in a Democracy, not a theocracy.
Personally, I feel that wherever the Mayans currently are, they’re laughing their butts off at all the hype over the end of the calendar. I have no doubt we’ll all be alive and well on December 22nd, so hey folks, lets stimulate the economy by Christmas shopping like there will be a December 25th.
